The Last Polynesian Kingdom
A passion project of mine is to create 3D models of Tongan cultural objects, monuments, environments, dances and songs.
These 3D models will allow people to experience or use these in XR applications for education, research and entertainment.
The techniques I will use to create these assets is photogrammetry and motion capture.
The reason why I am doing this is, I believe in capturing aspects of modern Tongan culture as we know it, as it disappears so quickly with adaptation, and to make it accessible to Tongans and those who are interested in Tongan culture everywhere. I am also of Tongan and German descent so this subject is close to me as I’ve grown up seeing everything change so quickly.
With the advent of XR I believe this is an immersive way to experience Tongan culture wherever you are in the world.
In order to help fund this I am selling a series of NFT’s/photographs taken in Tonga during the coronation of King Tupou V.
All collectors will be thanked and acknowledged for the lifetime of this project as key figures in the making of this archival and XR experiences for the Kingdom of Tonga. How I give back to collectors is yet to be determined but I will do my best to keep you involved in this project.
At the moment I am in the process of scanning small objects locally. Once I have several ready I will create NFT’s of these 3D objects for interested collectors.
In 2023 I plan to make a trip to Tonga to scan larger objects, monuments and environments.
The ultimate goal is to create AR experiences and a VR space for people to explore Tongan culture.
